Hello my names Will and I am the new Senior Stylist at Daniel Granger.

I have been hairdressing for almost 3 years and I am close to completing my Level 3 NVQ in Hairdressing. Since I qualified I was fortunate enough to get myself on to the ghd style squad, where I have attended such events as London Fashion Week, Harrods Little Black Dress Party, Salon International, Pro Hair Live. From this I am now a member of ghd’s events team where I attend different festivals, bloggers and retail.

I have also attended courses such as Videl Sassoon ABC, Junior Green Afro Styling, Portfolio Building with Sophie Laidlaw.

Adam had rather an unconventional start in hairdressing: heavily influenced by the music of his teens, he began by shaving Mohicans in the bedrooms and garages of his friends. Immediately getting the creative bug for hairdressing he quickly moved on to gents cuts and more conventional styles.

Continuing this passion through university, Adam took to all aspects of the craft, hungry to hone his skills and meet the next challenge head on.

Adam joined the Daniel Granger Hairdressing team in 2012 and quickly rose through the ranks of the salon. The British Hair Council made him a Student of the Year Finalist which sparked his interest in competitions and stage work. Since then he has placed highly in multiple competitions including the Joico Cut & Colour and British Barbers Association Barber of the Year.

Through assisting Daniel on many teaching courses, he began to educate hairdressing both in and out of the salon. Over the past 4 years, Adam has been involved in creating hair for theatres, fashion shows and photoshoots, when not fully booked with his loyal clientele.

His loves include short hair, barbering, shaving, clipper work of any kind, hair ups and unconventional colours, reflecting the fact he has a eclectic clientele spanning all areas of the industry. Adams favourite part of his job is the conversations with the people he meets, as each different walk of life have different stories to tell.

He truly believes that hairdressing is not a purely pursuit of vanity, but a confidence boosting ritual for all.

My name is Emma Rae Holmes I’m 22. I’ve been in the industry since I was 14 when I started working as a Saturday Girl in a salon in Daventry. I worked there for over a year and a half and I also worked there for my work experience at school. Then I had to stop to concentrate on my GCSE’s

When I left school, it was hard to find a good salon that would give me the opportunity to do what I wanted to do, I managed to get a job in a salon when I just turned 17 and I was there for just under a year and left the salon.

I did voluntary work and the odd Saturday job in salons in Daventry until I could find the perfect salon. I still attended college for my training where everyone helped to push me to get my work done and help me find a good salon, they found me a salon called Mask, which is now Daniel Granger Hairdressing, which is where I am now.

Working for someone like Daniel has been great he has encouraged me the whole time that I have worked for him. If I’ve ever been stuck with anything or if I wanted to enter anything he’d always help me get there.

In the 1st year of being at Daniel’s I had my first photo shoot within 4 months, whilst still a trainee. We did an in-salon competition where you could win a £50 voucher out for dinner at Papa Chinos and a photo shoot at Laceys. I won the competition in April

I then got to do another photo shoot which myself and 3 other trainees entered. It was the Joico Trainee Colour and Cut competition. Three of us got through and I won the competition

I’ve been lucky to have been able to do this at such a young age and to have the help and training that I had received from work and outside training

I entered the Salon Supplies training scheme, all you had to do was send of a picture of something you had done in the salon or a photo shoot you had done. I won the competition with 4 other people where I be collected my prize at Salon International 2014.

I also entered a competition with NHF where I was one of the three finalists which I also won that year in 2014.

In 2015 Daniel nominated me for F.A.M.E Team which I was one of the lucky 16 semifinalist unfortunately I didn’t make the finals but I am working on next year’s F.A.M.E Team and working on getting further into it.

As a team leader and the back bone of the salon, Donna has years of experience in the hair and fashion industry.

She is the unsung hero of Daniel Granger Hairdressing and is responsible for much of the action behind the scenes.

She is champagne of client care and is the first and last face the clients see when coming into the salon and prides herself on guaranteeing everyone leaves with great satisfaction and a smile.

Filip is the veteran of the salon with over a decade under his belt. As Daniel’s right hand man and co-owner of the business, Filip has seen success at the Barber of the Year Awards taking home first place, not one, but two years in a row. Not only is he a nationwide barbering educator, sharing his skills around the country, but he is also a Colour Ambassador for Joico. His biggest motivation is pushing the team forward and encouraging everyone under his leadership to achieve all they can achieve.

Filip’s vast experience and knowledge in all aspects of the industry has earned him the position of art director. With a loyal client base and exemplarily skill showcased both in and out of the salon, Filip has built a reputation as one of Northampton’s most sought after hairdressers.

Hi I’m Lucie, Vision Stylist at Daniel Granger Hairdressing and number one people person, guaranteed to make your day that whole bit better.

During my career I’ve accomplished many things including working at London Fashion Week, centre stage for many global brands at various large events around the world and I’m very accustomed to working on campaigns for Company Magazine.

I’m a real hair enthusiast, I absolutely love it. I get to meet new people everyday: our clients, friends and family or fellow professionals in the industry. Considering the hair dressing industry is constantly evolving, I’m glad to say I’m keeping on top of all the key changes and progressions, which of course benefits our clients.

I’m inspired by everything imaginable and always see a positive light from a dark situation, which leads me onto my loves of life, like Ibiza, well, the sunshine that comes with the territory. Travelling to amazing cities and seeing al the different cultures truly inspires me, the things you witness at every turn are refreshing and inspiring for sure.

When it comes down to inspiration, there is one person who inspires me even more than everything else the world has to offer, the person in question, Daniel Granger of course.

I’m great at being calm, understanding and considerate and I’m the kind of person who will do the impossible, even if everyone doesn’t think I can.

I’m known for my colour and technical skills and I will continue to push my ability for as long as I can.

I live by the quote “change the way you look at things and the things you look to change”.

One last thing about me, although rather embarrassing, I once fell from top to bottom of some club stairs in Barceclona — and I wasn’t even drunk!

Hairdressing was realistically my only career choice. As a child part of me wanted to follow in my fathers footsteps and become an architect or a builder. The idea of creating something practical and beautiful, quite literally from the ground up, appealed to me at a young age. One Christmas after my father passed I was given a pair of clippers with the intention of saving money by cutting hair from home. This gave me a purpose. After getting to grips with the basics it became clear I could create everyday, I could sculpt and craft with the same artistic ideals but the positive re-enforcement I received from family and friends after a cut was instant and addictive. Retrospectively I could not have chosen to pursue anything else.

My biggest drive was to own my own business. From an early age I had seen others build their careers but loose sight of the love that started it for them.  I wanted to open a salon with the right philosophy and intent behind it, making the client the most vital part of everything we do. We have all walked into salons that feel cold, clinical and judgmental. I wanted to open a salon that allowed people to be themselves, relax but most importantly get exactly what they wanted and more. The drive to achieve in other areas in the industry did not come until after I knew I had successfully accomplished this.

My philosophy has always been hard work, determination and always holding that dream in my mind. I was 20 I opened first salon “The Chair” with investment from client’s money who believed in my passion and vision. However this salon never really felt like my own and I open my current salon Daniel Granger Hairdressing (formerly Mask) in 2006.

I appeared Great British Hair television show, which promised the winner the glamorous life of session styling.  In the end I walked off the show, as the prize would have prevented me from seeing my family, particularly my daughter whom I did not see enough of as it was due to the salon absorbing so much of my time. The path was wrong but that exposure not only gave me some friends for life but also allowed me to show a fraction of what I was capable of. Soon after I joined the Structure Team. This allow me to back a brand I truly believed in but meant I could travel, teach, perform and create whilst still having time for both the salon and myself.

I opened Daniel Granger Hairdressing in 2006 and even in that short time the industry has changed. Clients have become savvier with a higher expectation of what a salon should be. Five star service has become the norm so salons have to go the extra mile beyond that. Precision cutting is the strongest of my skills utilizing line, layer and graduation to create any look, build weight, add texture or volume to an otherwise ordinary haircut. An understanding of the fundamental techniques can take you from the commercial to the avant-garde. The same is true of styling in sessions work. I find myself using old techniques to create something new. This is true of my work for Joico and Structure and also my own endeavors in the British Hair Awards.

My biggest passion is in education. Even as I take on new knowledge, techniques and skills my first thought is how can I apply these and easily impart this information onto others. There is an energy in the art of hairdressing, which is so often forgotten. If the delivery of information becomes clinical and academic this energy is lost and with it the excitement as well. When educating different levels, from those who haven’t even picked up a pair of scissors to the seasoned, salon veteran, they must be excited or they will not absorb anything. Performance and delivery is paramount, even in when teaching in other languages. You also have to keep moving, constantly evolving. This is not a static industry. If you get too stuck in your ways you will become stale.

This passion for education is something I have endeavored to impart in my team. I have pushed for photo-shoots and competitions to be the DG Art Teams bread and butter. Over just the past twelve months my team has won or finalized in numerous competitions including Emma Holmes winning the Salon Supplies Student Support Scheme both Adam Haines and Filip Cerri finalized in the British Barbers Associations Creative Master competition with Filip taking home the top prize and my partner, Lucie King. participating in the Fellowship colour project.

Even our apprentice, Molly, won Hairdressers Journal’s Student of the Year.

The greatest talent can be found in the most unlikely places. This industry can make an ego driven career however the greatest success doesn’t happen to an individual alone. Team is so important. I love being able to step back a let my younger team not only take the spotlight but also own it. I want to grow the Joico family as they back me as much as I back them. Over the past few years I have travelled to over 20 different countries educating and performing but there are still so many to see, so many people to meet to inspire and be inspired by.

One of my greatest loves in this industry is education whether it is for Joico or within my own team. In the back of my mind it has always been a dream to open own academy and build my brand into a company synonymous with training. This year I will once again be entering The British Hair Awards with a fresh new collection. Since being in the final last year the panic and adrenaline that provided has made me hungry to feel it all again. Over the next few years I’ll be keeping my head down, continue to love what I do and love the people I do it with.
